Happy birthday at the Pinnacle Mountain

Pinnacle Mountain is a hill located about five miles west of Little Rock. There are two routs to the top. The west route is a pretty good workout. It has an easy to moderate ascent with a quite steep finish close to the top. You can make the entire journey in about forty to fifty minutes. The east route is quite steep for a novice and you should reserve close to two hours to get safely up and down. Bob, Kim, Stepanka, and I hiked the west route last Monday after work. The weather was gorgeous and we made it to the top before the sun down (and the first mosquito attacks). Bob had a birthday the next day, so we sung happy birthday for him at the top and he got a small tress leches (no leeches) desert bought at Kroger. I tried to shake off the rest of the group right before reaching the top of the mountain to gain some time for candle lighting, but Bob is the most competitive dentist I have ever had so he gave me barely a chance to open my backpack. We took a couple of pictures and went down. We decided to go for a smoothie after our performance with a short stop at Bob’s and Kim’s future house. We split at the house not to bother the ladies with our discussions about optimal insulation material, TV room location, and a system for plants watering controlled from a living room (Bob, if you are reading this, take a quick look at the picture below; it should help you solve your problem with your window not being able to fully open because of the wall standing in its way).

The house is well thought through. I made a couple of pictures, drew a sketch at home later that day, and if everything goes well you should see an exact copy of that house in the Czech Republic in a couple of years. It was around 8:30 pm and was getting already dark so we left the construction site and went for our smoothies to Tropical CafĂ©. We got three smoothies and a breakfast burrito (dinner for the champions). Kim ordered just one cup of plain water with additional empty cup, and went with Stepanka to pick a table at a corner away from all other guests. Bob and I waited for our order at the bar and then joined the ladies. Apparently, Kim was on some sort of diet and brought her own pulverized food. I could say she knew what she was doing. She emptied a small back with a brown powdery mixture into her cup with water, took a wire whisk out of her purse, kept mixing everything rigorously while making sure none of the staff would see us (because we told her we liked it there and definitely wanted to come back some day), then she covered the cup with the empty cup, made a couple of James Bond’s “shake it – don’t mix it” moves, and the dinner was ready. We closed the place and drove home.
